Captive was formed when Carly Kling and James Carey decided to move away from their previous rock band Chai – and experiment with a more organic and honest approach to Carly’s songs. Teaming up with classically trained violinist and keyboardist, Edwin Montgomery, the trio created a sound which combined the richness of Carly’s acoustic 12-string and Ed’s violin and keyboard with the powerful dissonance created by James’ electric (and sometimes acoustic) guitar. In August 2003, Captive performed their debut gig headlining at a packed Sandringham Hotel and have since performed to large audiences at the Harbord Diggers, Cat and Fiddle and most recently through Club Acoustica at the Gaelic Club – where once again Captive filled the room with an appreciative audience. |
