With the release of her first EP ‘Songs From Toohey Road’, Becky Willis joins the ranks of Australia's hot new premier singer/songwriters. Her EP showcases the deeply personal and heartfelt music of this prolific Brisbane-based recording artist. Raised in South Australia, Becky migrated to Brisbane in 1996 where she fronted a band called The Getaway Drivers, winners of the 1998 Brisbane Rock Awards. After leaving the band, Becky played various clubs and festivals around Brisbane as part of a duo as well as on her own. Along the way she developed her skill as a songwriter and soon incorporated her original songs into the top 40 material she performed at clubs. However, the reaction to Becky's own material was so good she decided to focus more on her songwriting talent and soon enrolled in a songwriting course held in Brisbane by recording artist and writer John Beland, of the legendary country rock band The Flying Burrito Brothers. As fate would have it, Beland was so taken by the young singer/songwriter's talent that the two got together to record Becky's first EP Songs From Toohey Road. Becky is currently preparing for a tour of Europe and USA in May/June 2003. |
