Joseph is the archetypal rock and roll soldier. His enthusiasm is contagious and the energy with which he performs is frenetic. Joseph learned his craft playing sessions, teaching and working with function and blues bands in his home town of Geelong, Victoria - Australia. While devoting most of his time to classical guitar studies during his formative years, Joseph’s love of rock guitar became more of a priority strongly influenced by ’70s bands like Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin. He made his first trip to Sydney at the age of nineteen and began working there as a full time musician. Joseph spent time playing in New Guinea and Canada where he played over three hundred dates around British Columbia and Toronto, including the Canadian National Expo. Upon return to Australia Joseph began cultivating his acoustic playing, developing a style around open tunings and slide, writing and recording with Janey Kitto culminating in the 1995 release of the ‘20 Jacksonia’ EP. He used this style as a foundation for his current project, Akradia, Joseph’s songwriting partnership with Tasmanian-born vocalist Jodee Maree Smith. This union has become a viable live project, with the debut CD ‘Social Disorder’ released in 2000 and attracting glowing reviews from Sydney and Brisbane street press. In March 1999 he began working regularly with Aussie icon Jeff Duff, with whom he made his first trip to Tokyo, Japan in 2001 and played the WA fringe festival in 2002. Throughout 2000 Joseph was a regular guest on Basement Radio (Internet radio) including the occasional co-hosting spot with DJ Cleo Glyde, and he has been seen performing with Matt Moffitt (Matt Finish), Rick Grossman (Hoodoo Gurus), Tali Gillespie (Yothu Yindi) and Morgana (ex Nitocris) & the MoNsTaRs. His current projects include Jeff Duff and Akradia. Joseph Calderazzo appears with Jeff Duff on Vampire Lover on the 'Club Acoustica: The Basement Showcases Volume 1' CD.
