Flywheel is a two-piece band comprising Ian Gorrie on drums and Danial Ollis on acoustic guitar and vocals. The naturally complementary playing styles of Ian and Danial combine to sound like one large rhythm machine. This is augmented by Danial’s emotion charged vocal style. Flywheel are inspired by the likes of the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, John Lee Hooker, The Saints and Primus. Whilst not necessarily sounding like these bands, Flywheel are impressed by bands/musicians with a raw sound, who ‘put in’ during their performances. Flywheel’s sound is a whole entity. The sound produced by the combination of acoustic guitar, drums with brushes and vocals is larger than the sum of its parts would suggest. Despite the small number of contributing instruments, Flywheel’s sound lacks for nothing, often sounding as large as a three- or four-piece band. Flywheel play their own brand of blues inspired acoustic rock, comprising heavy rhythmic presence with emotion charged vocals, adhering to the creed ‘use only what you need’. Their interpretation of roots music is like a 650cc V-twin bike; not real big, but plenty of grunt. |
