Jack Derwin began his musical career and songwriting in north-west NSW as a teenager. His musical influences centred on commercial acoustic artists, including Dylan and Cat Stevens. Jack performed his first professional gigs as a solo performer during a working holiday in Queenstown, NZ, during ski season.
On his return to Sydney, he performed as a duo in Percusso, working full time on the Sydney circuit in pubs, clubs and functions, while also continuing his work as a solo performer. In 1992, his first CD ‘With My Eyes’ received radio airplay in rural and north coast areas, with a video clip and some TV exposure on ABC and Channel 10. He went on to tour NSW with Jack Cat Blues. 2002 saw the release of 2 new CDs, ‘Ninghdoo Sky’ reflective of country influences around his home town, and ‘Reflected Blue’ an acoustic blues CD with a modern/urban flavour. His CD launch in Sydney in December featured an extra line-up of saxophone, guitar, Arabic drum, congas and didgeridoo. Jack is currently gigging around inner and outer Sydney with a range of up-tempo songs and ballads in acoustic mode. His emphasis is on a “live” feel and minimal overdubs to enhance the flavour. He is also in the studio mixing a new CD to be released in the next couple of months. |
