Revolver Issue #233 | *** 1/2

22-05-2002 Revolver

You really have to pick your time to listen to this CD. There's no cavalier, throw it on whenever feel to this compilation - it's strictly for the times when you need to put your feet up and contemplate all things relaxing.

It opens with rootsy and incedibly rich toned Jay Atwill who sounds as if he should be sitting on your front porch with a dog at his heels. women in docs' live energy and humour shine through, and Brett Hunt belts out a song with more emotion then a Helen Hunt movie. It's not all my type of Acoustica but then again if it was it would probably get pretty boring. Luke O'Shea's country flavours seem to be impressing many but didn't send the shivers down my spine, and Stella One Eleven don't do their track 'She Lies' justice without the drums and heft of the of the original (so I'm a rock purist, sue me).

For the few flat areas, Club Acoustica have still demonstrated a palpable knack for hand picking some very talented kids in the acoustic vein, and it wouldn't surprise me to see some of these artists appearing on major label compilations in the near future.
