In what promises to be one of the wildest and raunchiest Basement shows of all time, Club Acoustica and Duffo Productions have gathered some of their hippest comrades to pay tribute to two of the coolest rock performers on the planet, Lou Reed and Iggy Pop.
Both were there when 'rock' began in the early sixties and both have survived the challenges from each passing rock 'n' roll impostor and every passing musical trend without compromising their raw approach to music.
This Basement show will trace Lou Reed's early exploration into rock music with The Velvet Underground, kicking off with the mid-sixties 'Andy Warhol' period from his 'FACTORY' which Andy called the 'Exploding Plastic Inevitable'.
Through the early Factory period, Warhol produced the classic self-titled debut Velvet album. This was followed by the Warhol-produced 'Banana' album, so titled because of the album cover.
These early albums showcased Reed's songwriting skills with the songs 'Sweet Jane', 'Venus in Furs', 'Rock N Roll' and the drug-inspired 'Heroin', 'White Light/White Heat' and 'I'm Waiting for the Man'...
Lou Reed's debut solo album 'Transformer' (which was produced by David Bowie) featured the unforgettable 'Walk on the Wild Side'. This track, along with his huge catalogue of songs, put his name up there as one of the most influential singer/songwriters of the twentieth century.
From as far back as 'The Stooges' in the sixties when he rocked America with sheer volume and power, Iggy Pop shocked audiences with his antics. His latest solo albums have remained faithful to his origins. This Basement show will feature songs from The Stooges... 'Search & Destroy', 'Gimme Danger', 'I Wanna Be Your Dog', 'No Fun'... and songs from his solo albums including his Bowie period in the seventies, 'Raw Power', 'The Idiot', 'China Girl', 'Lust for Life' and 'The Passenger'.
Jeff Duff, who struck up a friendship with Andy Warhol during the Factory Period, will be joined by... Louis Tillet, Phil Ceberano, Damien Lovelock, Steve Balbi, Kylie Burtland and Morgana (Nitocris), plus an all star band featuring Dave Leslie (Baby Animals), Joseph Calderazzo (Akradia), Peter Drummond (Alien Sex Gods), Colin Kouri (Richard Clapton Band) and Rick Robertson (Dig).
The Lou Reed/Iggy Pop Tribute Night, presented by Club Acoustica & Duffo Productions, will be at The Basement on Friday, September 1st. Show starts at 8:30pm and tickets are available at the door for $18.00.
